With All I Am: Understanding Our Identity as Daughters of God
Welcome to the first session of our series, With All I Am, where we will explore the profound and beautiful truth of who we are as daughters of God. This journey is one of identity, purpose, and transformation, and it's important to understand the foundation of our value and worth. For each of us, understanding who we are in Christ begins with understanding who God is as our Father.
Session 1: Identity — Who Is the Father?
The core question of our faith is often, "Who is God?" As we explore our identity as daughters of God, we must first understand who the Father is. The more we learn about the nature and character of God, the more we can understand who we are in Him.
Romans 5:8 – A Father's Love
"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."This verse encapsulates the sacrificial love of our Father. God didn’t wait for us to become perfect or worthy; He loved us in our brokenness, sending His Son to redeem us. This is the heart of a father—unconditional, self-sacrificing, and full of grace.
Who Is God as a Father?
Character of God: God is loving, self-sacrificing (as shown in Jesus' death on the cross), just, holy, and righteous. His love is not based on our perfection, but on His greatness.
Authority of God: God is all-powerful (omnipotent), all-knowing (omniscient), and ever-present (omnipresent). As our Creator and King, He is above all, with no rivals to His authority.
Kingdom of God: God's Kingdom is not of this world, but it governs everything. He is King, and we are His daughters, under His reign. His kingdom is one of peace, righteousness, and love.
What Does the Father Desire?
Our Father desires:
Obedience: Not because He demands it for His own sake, but because obedience brings us into closer fellowship with Him. He wants us to desire Him, to please His heart, and to follow His ways.
Respect: He desires that we honor Him, not out of entitlement but out of humility. We are His children, but we are also to honor Him as the King of kings.
Relationship: God desires intimacy with us—personal interaction, surrender, and a closeness that reflects the bond between a father and his daughter.
How Does the Father Lead Us?
Through Experiences: God often leads us through our own life experiences, teaching us in every moment.
Through Scripture: His Word guides us, instructs us, and points us to the way we should live.
Through Trials and Tribulations: While difficulties are hard, they are also the means by which God strengthens, comforts, and refines us.
Through the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit comes alongside us, guiding, teaching, and empowering us to live the life God has called us to.
What Does the Father Grant?
Legal Rights and Inheritance: As His daughters, we inherit the rights of the Kingdom. Our future is secure because God has a greater plan for us.
Provision and Protection: Our Father provides for our needs, guards us from harm, and gives us the strength to face life's challenges.
Purpose and Value: We are not accidents or mistakes. We are precious, chosen, and purposeful in His eyes.
How Do I Become a Daughter?
The simple yet profound answer: Salvation in Jesus Christ. Through Jesus, we are adopted into the family of God and granted all the privileges of daughterhood. When we receive Jesus as our Savior, we are reconciled to the Father and become His beloved children.
Let's close this session in prayer, thanking God for His love and for the new identity we have as His daughters.
Session 2: Identity — A New Creation in Christ
As we continue our journey, let's dive deeper into the concept of identity in Christ. In 2 Corinthians 5:17, Paul writes:"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!"This powerful verse reminds us that when we become daughters of God, we are redefined by His love, His sacrifice, and His purposes for our lives.
What Am I? How Can I Be Defined by God Despite My Past?
It's easy to let our past mistakes, failures, and hurts define us. But as daughters of God, we are redefined by Him. God’s love transforms our lives, just as it transformed the lives of the women in Jesus' genealogy. In Matthew 1, we see that Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and Bathsheba—women with checkered pasts—were redeemed by God and brought into the lineage of Jesus. They were redefined by God's grace, just as we are.
Rags to Riches Stories
Many of us are familiar with rags-to-riches stories—like Cinderella or the tale of a pauper becoming a princess. In Christ, we are transformed from the rags of our sin to the riches of His glory. The grace of God is our ultimate makeover, where our past does not define us, but His love and redemption do.
Women Transformed by Grace
The Woman with the Issue of Blood, who found healing in Jesus' touch.
The Adulterous Woman, whom Jesus forgave and empowered to sin no more.
The Woman at the Well, whom Jesus engaged and transformed with living water.
These women, marginalized and broken, were transformed by the love and grace of Jesus. We, too, are transformed into new creations in Christ.
Our Needs as Daughters
As daughters, we need to know that we are:
Precious: We are valued by God, not because of what we’ve done, but because of who we are in Him.
Protected: God is our refuge and shield, keeping us safe in His arms.
Provided for: Our Father provides for our every need, physically and spiritually.
Purposed: We have a unique and beautiful purpose in His Kingdom.
Our Privileges as Daughters
As daughters of the King, we receive:
Love, blessings, and instruction from our Father.
Empowerment to live out His purposes.
Authority to walk in our identity as heirs of the Kingdom.
A future that is secure in Him, full of hope, and rooted in the promises of God.
Identity Statements Based on Scripture
I am a beloved daughter of the King.I am redeemed and made new in Christ.I am precious, protected, provided for, and purposed.I am an heir to God's promises and a witness of His grace.
Session 3: Influence — Mercy Triumphs Judgment
In the third session, we’ll explore how as daughters of God, we are called to influence the world around us. James 2:13says:"Mercy triumphs over judgment."
Daughters of Influence: Women Who Impacted History
Throughout Scripture, we see women who changed the course of history:
Esther: A queen who saved her people by trusting in God’s timing and courage.
Priscilla and Phoebe: Early leaders in the Church, teaching and spreading the Gospel.
Deborah and Lydia: Women who led with strength, wisdom, and courage.
These women, like us, were daughters of God, called to make a difference and bring about change in their world. They modeled qualities of strength, wisdom, and self-sacrifice.
How Can We Influence as Daughters?
We can influence by:
Encouraging: Be each other’s cheerleaders, offering grace and support.
Equipping: Speak truth in love and challenge one another to grow.
Empowering: Challenge each other to step beyond comfort zones, to pray for and lead others.
Enjoying: Spend time together, celebrate life, and build strong bonds of sisterhood.
As daughters of God, we are called to live out our faith with courage and conviction, just like the women in the Bible who changed the world through their obedience to God and their compassion for others.
Let’s conclude this session in prayer, asking God to help us be agents of change, as we step into the roles He has called us to as daughters of the King.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,Thank You for revealing to us who we are in Christ. We are not defined by our past, but by Your love and grace. We are daughters of the King, help us to understand this with all humilty and faith.
